DON’T YOU HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS?
 YOU CAN CALL FIRST

It’s unfortunate, but occasionally due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, and with very little notice,  the SGS Library may be closed during its normal hours of operation of Tuesday thru Saturday 10am-3pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm.

Now you can call first to check the status.  SGS has a new phone system and has established a procedure that all unforeseen closures  will be announced on an outgoing phone message. So you are invited to call the Library at 206.522.8658 before heading out.

NEW YEAR, NEW TOOLS!

Everyone is getting into DNA to help break down those brick walls – and sometimes create new ones when we find out we aren’t who we think we are.  Lisa Marker of the Mac Interest Group  will be presenting:

Transferring your Raw DNA data from your testing company to gedmatch
— how to upload your data, and in simple terms, why you should.

Everyone is welcome to this special presentation at the Mac Interest Group , including PC users, as this topic is not specific to Mac or Apple products. The meeting will be on the street level of Pioneer Hall in Madison Park, upstairs from the Fiske Library, 1644 43rd Ave E, Seattle 98112. Street parking.

NEW FAMILY TREE WORKSHOP AT FISKE

For anyone interested in exploring Family Tree of  FamilySearch, https://familysearch.org/ ,come join in to find out how simple and yet how intricate this phenomenal new Wiki based Family Tree can be. It is one of the largest in the world and is a marvelous tool for your research.

Each workshop will have a short presentation of various features, simple and advanced, and time for questions and problem solving. They have AirPlay hookup so your computer display can be projected directly onto the giant video screen. Come see how that works.

This is not sponsored by the LDS Church so will not cover church ordinances, but it will cover everything else.

Organized by Lou Daly loudaly3@iCloud.com and David Brazier, the first meeting will be Wednesday, February 8th, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Fiske Genealogical Library, 1644 43rd Ave E, Seattle, street level entrance. NEHGS DIGITIZATION PROJECT
 OF BOSTON CATHOLIC RECORDS

The New England Historic Genealogical Society has entered into collaboration with the Archdiocese of Boston to produce a database of Catholic records from 1789 to 1900. The time frame for the completion of the this project has not yet been announced, but it will clearly be an exceptionally useful resource. The information will be of special interest to Irish, Italian, and German emigrant families because Boston was an important destination port in the nineteenth century. This project, when released, will result in one of the largest collections of American Catholic genealogical records online, including baptisms, marriages, first holy communions, confirmations, deaths and burials.
