“Victorian Slum House” – Ancestral Connections Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Watch online at PBS.org.
Some of the volunteer participants in the show had ancestors who lived in the very slums in East End London that are featured in the show.

The show is running as a series that premiered yesterday, May 3rd.

The series portray the 1860s and 1870s, with the actors/participants as literally as possible walking in their predecessors shoes. The show has recreated the slums of those eras, with participants working to keep themselves housed, clothed, and fed.

Call for Sunday afternoon Research Assistants!!
The desire to make a difference. That’s the common attribute of those who give their time to the GFO. As an all-volunteer organization, with no paid staff, we would love to have your help!

We’re currently looking for help specifically on Sundays from 11:30am to 5pm at the front desk.

Research Assistants (RA’s) help visitors to the GFO library in finding material among the shelves or within the depths of the microfilm cabinets, assist with navigating GFO’s online databases, process book sale transactions, sign in visitors and process membership renewals, re-shelve books, and much more more.

If you know you have some talents in ANY of these ares, or if you simply have the drive and desire to learn some new skills, this gig’s for YOU!!
Interested? Email volunteer@gfo.org today!
