Legacy Genealogy Software User Group

If you use Legacy Family Tree Software for tracking your genealogy research, there is a Legacy Users Group that meets monthly to discuss tips, tricks and problems. You will always come away with some new ideas. The meetings are held regularly on the first Monday of the month. Members and non-members are welcome.

 

Is Your Genealogy Research a Mess?

Have you  hit a brick wall or are confused about which direction to go?  Learn how to re-start, re-set and re-group with guidelines set by nationally-known researcher, Thomas MacEntee, in his “Genealogy Do-Over Workbook.” Free classes are held on the first Monday of each month. Researching Pennsylvania Records

Pennsylvania has several distinct ethnic and religious groups. They kept different records that can be that are really helpful when you know what to look for. In this class, you’ll learn how to overcome the challenges of state boundary issues, the shifting borders of counties and townships, and the difficulties in locating churches and cemeteries. This class will cover the on- and off-line resources that are unique to the Keystone State.

Class is $12 for CCGS members and $15 for non-members. Pre-registration is requested as classes may be canceled with insufficient advance registration.

The first component of the Genealogical Proof Standard is the conduct of reasonably exhaustive research. This lecture will highlight the sources and strategies available to meet this requirement in the case of African American ancestors who were enslaved.

Using Timelines for Correlation and Analysis

Timelines are one of many tools a genealogist can use to display evidence in the determination of proof arguments. This lecture explores the strategic aspect of the use of timelines and their relationship to the Genealogical Proof Standard, analysis and correlation. Timelines will be defined, their relationship to the GPS articulated and reasons why you should use timelines in your research work.  Many examples, illustrating different types of problems and their resultant formats, will be presented. We will also cover how to build effective timelines using Word and Excel.

This lecture explores the rich resources found within courthouse walls and examines how these records can add to the genealogical search.
