Call for Bulletin Managing Editors and Layout Experts…

This ain’t a one-person show, Ms. Stafford!

This summer, we need two or three co-managing editors for GFO’s quarterly publication, The Bulletin.

We also have need for a lead layout expert to help with laying out the finished articles and other content for printing and digital distribution.

Interested? Please contact Marti at bulletin@gfo.org.

New Family Tree Maker User Group at GFO

We have a brand new Special Interest Group (SIG) at GFO! And it’s all about Family Tree Maker (FTM)!

WHAT: Lab session for users of Family Tree Maker. This will be a complimentary class to Laurel Smith’s FTM Beginners sessions.

WHEN: First class will be on Sunday, May 20th, 1 – 3pm. Check the calendar for ongoing class schedule HERE.

Join other users who want to work through the 2017 Companion Guide to Family Tree Maker.

Bring your laptop with the 2017 version of FTM installed and an empty USB thumb drive.

We’ll organize future sessions and work through Chapter 3 in the Companion Guide. A practice tree will be used so as not to damage your personal tree.

Questions? Send a note to this group’s facilitator, Joyce Grant-Worley, at FTM@gfo.org.

If you’re organized and you know it, raise your hand!

Membership Volunteers Needed

The Membership Committee is recruiting volunteers to assist with processing Membership Applications on a weekly basis.

Time commitment is generally 3-4 hours a week but may be longer depending on number of applications received. More volunteers helping means lighter work, however.

After training is completed and volunteers are comfortable working by themselves, they will be scheduled two times a month, alternating weeks with the Membership Chair.

Volunteers need to be computer savvy and able to enter data accurately. Volunteers would work with a member of the Membership Committee while learning procedures.

For further information, email membership@gfo.org or call GFO’s Library at 503-963-1932 to leave a message for Jane McGarvin, Membership Chair.

We can’t say it enough: Thank you for all you do for the GFO!!!

At the GFO This Week…

FRIDAY, April 13th

Mexican Ancestry Group 11:30am – 1:30pm

Finding your Hispanic ancestors from Mexico, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California

Learn & Chat 10am – Noon

At Learn & Chat some of the learning comes from speakers with particular expertise but most of it comes from the sharing of experiences and knowledge of attendees who have developed methods that work for them. And if you have been doing genealogy for any length time you have likely experienced the wonderful moments of exhilaration, the successes that you then share with others and that drive you to continue researching. Unfortunately those times can be few and far between. Join us to talk about your genealogy questions and help provide support to others. Facilitated by Jean Quan.

DNQ Q&A 1 – 3pm

Lisa McCullough leads a discussion on various DNA related subjects, with each meeting focused on a particular subject. General questions are welcome at the end of each planned discussion.

Irish Group 6 – 8pm

Focus: Although all of the island of Ireland is included, our primary focus is the genealogical research of the Republic of Ireland, also known as the Irish Free State, Éire, Ireland, and Southern Ireland. Members of the GFO as well as their guests and any interested members of the public are welcomed to attend the Irish Genealogy SIG. One hour of each two-hour meeting will be spent on presentations about Irish history, genealogy, and resources while the second hour will focus on Irish Brick Wall questions.

The Irish group meets on the third Wednesday of the even months February,April, June, August, and October (there will be no meeting in December). Contact Irish@gfo.org for more information.
