Saturday, June 4, Land presentations will begin at 9:00 am with Angela Packer McGhie speaking on land entry papers, including the Oregon and Washington donation files, and tract books. Following that Rebecca Whitman Koford will present “Military Bounty lands: Revolution to Mexican War”.

Attendees will have 3 registration choices:

  • All 3 days

  • Friday and Sunday only

As usual, SGS members will receive a discount on the registration fee.

In the coming weeks, watch the SGS Calendar of Events, the SGS social media pages, and the eNews! for further details on this seminar. Cyndi Ingle, Angela Packer McGhie, Rebecca Whitman Koford, Melinda Kashuba, and Kimberly Powell – you won’t want to miss any of these talented speakers.

And while your calendar is in front of you, reserve September 17-18, 2022, for the SGS Fall Virtual Seminar with Judy Russell, the Legal Genealogist.

DONE!
The last major task in the restructuring of our library following our move to the Good Shepherd Center has been completed. Over 100 boxes of books, in storage and earmarked for shipment to the Internet Archives, needed to be unpacked, cataloged for our records, and then repacked into heavy duty shipping boxes. This took SGS members Allegra Anderson, Melanie Moser, Woods Fairbanks, and Ellen Peterson (pictured below), as well as Kathi, SGS Library Director, and Jim Secan, SGS President, two days. Later Kathi and Woods helped load the shipper’s truck, thus starting these books on the journey to their new home.

Many thanks from the SGS board to these four SGS members who quite literally volunteered to do the heavy lifting.

PLEA FROM NGS AND FAMILY SEARCH
Do you think your genealogical society or organization would be interested in helping with the 1950 Census Crowdsourcing Project? This came to us from NGS and we thought we would help spread the word:

“FamilySearch and NGS are inviting individuals and societies to assist in making the 1950 US census easier for everyone to search and discover their family connections. This unique crowdsourcing project, the largest census undertaking to date, will make the 150 million records of the individuals found on the census’s tens of thousands of digital images freely searchable online.

Please join us on February 8th at 8:30 PM ET and learn more about the project and how you and your genealogy society or organization can get involved.”
