What’s Happening this Week at the GFO?

Virginia Group – Saturday, November 7th, 10am – 12pm

Peggy Baldwin will be discussing Mind Mapping, which is a process for organizing pieces of information into a more manageable format. It is a creative and logical means of note-taking and note-making that literally “maps out” your ideas.

We will also have a brick wall presentation and continue our discussion on solving those problems.

German Group – Saturday, November 7th, 1pm – 3pm

Tia Cobb and Bonnie Randolph will be talking about their recent trip to Germany and neighboring countries. Come to learn about how they got ready, some of their adventures and misadventures, and the information that they found about their families.

Learn and Chat – Wednesday, November 11th, 1:30pm – 2:30pm

Join us for a discussion of how to use Photoshop Elements to present your family history research, pictures and stories. We discuss scanning techniques, photo restoration, creating pages for presentation, resources and anything else participants want to know related to this topic. All are welcome, from beginners to more advanced users. Come, learn and share your ideas and questions. Taught by Sarah Holmes.

Please NOTE: November’s Family Tree Maker Classes have been cancelled.

A Short Film Screening! And Robert De Niro! And Genealogy? What more could you want??

The GFO is partnering with FrankCreative.com in an upcoming screening of the new movie Ellis, written by award-winning Erik Roth, and produced by artist JR. This short film combines the story of Ellis Island and its many travellers with archived photographs and moving cinematography. Starring Robert De Niro, Ellis shows the struggles and triumphs of those who built America.

Ellis is currently scheduled to show in Pub 161 at Clark College in Vancouver, WA on November 16th at 3:00 PM. Stay tuned for more details about an additional screening in the Portland Metro Area later this month.

YD@W…What’s happened to all the donation money?

Your Donations At Work (YD@W)

This week, we’re featuring the GFO’s new projection screen that was made possible by your donations and ongoing support. •Why the large screen?? Attending classes in the back of the library used to mean coming early for the best seats, a.k.a. close to the screen so you could see. A new LARGER THAN LIFE projection screen has been purchased and installed in the GFO’s Multipurpose Room. Visibility has never been better!

Quick! While no one’s watching!!

November is “RETURNS” Amnesty Month at the GFO

As our volunteers work to reclassify and re-catalog the various collections at the GFO Library, we see that many items are missing. Some have been checked out and never returned. Others have just disappeared.

All November, please bring back any GFO items you may have. No fees, no questions asked!

Our library books and materials are at the core of the GFO. Won’t you please help restore our collection by checking your shelves and coffee tables at home?
