Missed today’s “Get Acquainted With…” session??
No problem. Just catch the duplicate one on Sunday, Jan 29th!!
Here’s the how this works:
GFO President Laurel Smith and Manuscripts Chair Nanci Remington are giving duplicate presentations one Sunday and Wednesday each month (check the calendar for these moving dates) about what’s in the GFO library and how to utilize its extraordinary resources.
And remember, these are DUPLICATE PRESENTATIONS so that if you can’t come on a Sunday, then maybe, hopefully, if the world’s not yet ended by then, you can come to the Wednesday session.
This month, this very next Wednesday and the following Sunday in fact, Laurel and Nanci will be giving tips on the new organization of the books in the library, along with an explanation of what all those pesky call numbers mean and how to find them using our online library catalog. Did you know we have an online catalog? Totally accessible from your own home? Well, if you didn’t, then you better plan on coming this Sunday from 1-3pm, or this next Wednesday from 6-8pm so you can learn all about it!!
The GFO online library catalog is under Resources at our new website HERE.

What’s Happening this Week at the GFO?
SATURDAY, JANUARY 28th
Advanced DNA 9am – noon
How to interpret autosomal DNA, Y chromosome, and mitochondrial DNA test results. Tim Janzen will present some suggested guidelines on interpreting all three types of DNA results and will provide some examples that could be used to generate additional discussion. There will also be plenty of time for questions.
The DNA Interest Group is facilitated by Emily Aulicino (e-mail: Aulicino@hevanet.com). Please be sure to download and bring the class handouts HERE.
British Interest Group 1 – 3pm
Researching in the British Isles, especially England, Wales, Scotland, and Scots-Irish—no Ireland, as a strong GFO interest group for that heritage already exists. We try to have speakers who provide interesting experiences or online databases for research in these countries. One hour of the two hour meeting is devoted to Brick Wall questions. Questions may be directed to: Duane Funk at duanefunk@comcast.net.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 29th
Library Work Party 9am – Noon
There’s another good ole fashioned work party at the GFO library today for those of you who can come. There’s lots to do and we’d love to have your help. Doors open at 9 and work usually wraps up around noon. Some people come for just an hour or so and you’re welcome to do the same. Any time you can share is valuable. Hope to see you there.
Get Acquainted With… 1 – 3pm
As mentioned above, this is a repeat session of the one presented on Wednesday (today, Jan 25th). Topic to be covered?? Why the very organization of the library itself! As well as tips on how to make the most out of using the GFO’s online catalog!
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1st

Join us to talk about your genealogy questions and help provide support to others. Facilitated by Connie Lenzen.
