Seattle Genealogical Society News

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are looking for two to three volunteers to serve on the SGS Nominating Committee. This committee is responsible for finding volunteer candidates for the four officer positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) and seven director positions (Education, Library, Membership, Operations, Publications, Technology, Volunteers) that make up the SGS Board of Directors to go on the slate for the upcoming SGS elections. Incumbents in six of these positions are planning to volunteer for another year, so over half of the positions already have one candidate. Our preference is to have SGS members who are not on the Board sit on the Nominating Committee, as called for in our Policies and Procedures Manual, but if we do not have volunteers for this committee by January 31, 2022 the Board will select two Board members to handle this job.  If you are interested please contact either the SGS Secretary (Amandalei Bennett, secretary@seagensoc.org) or the SGS President (Jim Secan, president@seagensoc.org).
ANOTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
There is one more task to complete our move to the new library space. We have approximately 100 book boxes filled with books in storage at the Public Storage facility located at 3000 15th Ave W, Seattle, WA 98115. These books need to be sent to the Internet Archive (IA) for scanning and posting on-line. First they need to be transferred to sturdier shipping boxes provided by the IA and we also need to keep a record of what we are shipping. We plan to record the items by either (a) taking a picture of the cover page of each book (cell-phone pictures are fine), or (b) keeping a written record of the title and author of each book. Volunteers to do this re-boxing and recording are needed immediately.

SGS Library Director, Kathi, will be coordinating this effort, so if you would like to help please contact her at library@seagensoc.org.
