Stanford’s New Map Collection
You won’t want to miss this!

The David Rumsey Map Center at Stanford, boasts approximately 150,000 historical cartographic treasures, including rare maps, pocket maps, globes, atlases, and not to mention three flights of spiral stairs with rows of antique maps lining the sides. This collection is also accessible from your own computer HERE.
Westport Historic Private and Public Cemeteries Database
That’s right, Westport, Bristol County, in southeastern Massachusetts. And if you have family from this area, boy do they have a database for you! The Cemetery Identification Group (CIG), which was formed in 2005 under the guidance of the Westport Historical Commission, has continued to honor its mission to “identify, record, and protect Westport’s historic cemeteries and burial grounds” through their website HERE. The Westport Historic Private and Public Cemeteries website provides nearly 12,000 burial records in one searchable database, so don’t delay and start your searching today.

What’s Happening this Week at the GFO?

SATURDAY, APRIL 23rd
Italian Interest Group 1pm – 3pm

Ciao to everyone interested in Italian genealogy research. This is a great opportunity to learn, share, and enjoy others with a common interest. Italian genealogy research in the Portland area now has a home. Come join our group. Facilitated by Keith Pyeatt.
SUNDAY, APRIL 24th
Library Work Party 9am – Noon

As usual, it’s all hands on deck! Come out to help us in our ongoing relabeling project here at the library. Any time you can give is always very much appreciated.

Heraldry Workshop Noon – 3pm

Colonial Dames chapter will host a Heraldry workshop for members and the public. The GFO has the best resources for heraldry in the area. We explain the history of heraldry, and will help people research heraldry for their families at the end of the workshop.

We’re Open Late on Wed’s! 9:30 – 8pm
