Our HOUSE HISTORIES Workshop is filling up and space is becoming scarce, so sign up now!

Click HERE TO REGISTER today. If there are still some seats left the day of the event, we’ll also take registration at the door.

That’s right, this coming Sunday at 9:30 a.m., bright and early, we’ll be hosting Connie Lenzen’s “Discovery Your House History” Workshop at the GFO Library (map).

Connie will be presenting tips and stories on how to research the history behind the walls that surround us in our homes and the other buildings of our daily lives. She’ll be using examples from Multnomah County, but the research advice can be applied in most geographic locations.

“Ring, ring.” “Hello.” “This is Berlin calling from 1957.”

Berliner

Berline Directory 1957

The following is a note from Dr. Marc Jarzebowski, explaining his digitization project of West Berlin’s telephone directories from 1957.

“I am glad to be able to inform you that an invaluable source for any family research project with a focus on Berlin/Germany is now available online for the first time, free and without registration.

The directory from 1957 with more than one million addresses in the West Berlin districts on more of 2400 pages was the first of its kind, which appeared after 1943. Therefore this is the first place to look, if you are searching for the whereabouts of individuals or families after the Second World War.”

Sally s Diaries

Sally

Transcribed Diaries at “Sally’s Diaries”
Sometimes, letters and personal journals and daily logs can hold some of the most valuable clues to understanding our ancestors and the world they inhabited.

Click HERE TO EXPLORE Ms. Sally MacNamara Ivey’s collections and corresponding transcriptions. And don’t forget to give a look at the one titled “1934 DIARY OF A GANGSTER’S GIRLFRIEND”.

These types of treasures are also what make up a good majority of the GFO’s ever growing Manuscripts Collections, which we are tirelessly continuing to scan and put online for researchers’ use.
