The German Interest Group of The Eastside Genealogical Society will meet on Friday, March 3, 2017, from 1 to 3 pm in the Relief Society Room of the LDS Church at 10675 NE 20thSt, Bellevue, WA 98004 with doors opening at 12:45 pm for networking.
Topic: “Meyers Orts” has been the classic reference source for information about German cities, defining government, court, military and religious jurisdictions. As a result, Meyers has been a valuable tool for genealogists in locating offices which might hold important documents. Originally published in fraktur German, use of the gazetteer was a true challenge to non-German speakers. We’ll explore the history of Meyers Orts and follow its development from old book volumes to today’s easily accessed English internet sites.
Speaker: Ken Passé has been doing genealogy research for more than 20 years and has been fortunate to have visited his ancestral village in Germany several times. A self-professed maritime guy/waterfront rat, he has extended his research to touch upon shipboard travel from Europe to America.
