The GFO’s new website has an upcoming feature, and we’d like your input on its content!
We’re currently testing out the web portals function on our new website at the GFO for our volunteers and board members.

In the next month, we’d like to gather ideas for what YOU WANT in a members-only section of the GFO website.

If you have any ideas about what content you would like to see go into the Members Portal, please send an email to webmaster@gfo.org.

What’s Happening this Week at the GFO?

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4th
Virginia Group 10am – noon

Due to the bad weather, we are continuing our January topic of “From Research Problem to Research Plan” for the Virginia Group this Saturday. Gather the information that you have for a problem you want to solve this year and we’ll work as a group to formulate a plan to solve it.

Come with, at least, the following:

▪ What you want to know (the more specific, the better).

▪ What you know now, e.g. a brief summary of the family or pedigree chart or family group sheet (and be specific about time and place).

▪ What records have you already looked at (remember to be specific).

.

SIG Leader Training 12:15 – 12:45 pm

Library evacuation training for Special Interest Group leaders and any other interested parties.

German Interest Group 1 – 3pm

The German Interest Group was formed in the spring of 2011. It is intended to be a source of information and inspiration for anyone with German speaking ancestors. One goal is to provide information on a variety of topics related to Germanic history and migration. We also will provide time for members to share their research journeys and connect with others who may be researching the same region or time period.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5th
Library Work Party 9am – Noon

There’s another good ole fashioned work party at the GFO library today for those of you who can come. There’s lots to do and we’d love to have your help. Doors open at 9 and work usually wraps up around noon. Some people come for just an hour or so and you’re welcome to do the same. Any time you can share is valuable. Hope to see you there.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6th
First Free Monday!! Don’t forget, every first Monday of every month the GFO Library and all its wonderful resources are open to non-members for free!
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8th
Photoshop Elements Group 1:30 – 2:30pm

Join us for a discussion of how to use Photoshop Elements to present your family history research, pictures and stories. We discuss scanning techniques, photo restoration, creating pages for presentation, resources and anything else participants want to know related to this topic. All are welcome, from beginners to more advanced users. Come and learn and share your ideas and questions. Taught by Sarah Holmes.

Get Acquainted With… 6 – 8pm

This month’s topic will be the GFO’s subscription databases. We’ll be giving an introduction to the research sites that are available at our library. Presented by Nanci Remington.
