Heritage Quest Research Library Open Saturdays

Happy Valentines Day!
We haven’t had much to cheer about lately, so we are very excited to let you know that we are now OPEN on Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM.

We are still required to social distance and wear face masks.  It makes for a great opportunity to browse the stacks alone.  Come in and see what’s new in our collection.

We’re also excited to share some news from our friends at Tacoma Pierce County Genealogical Society.  The Spring Seminar information is out and you can read all about it and register at
https://tpcgs.org/seminar.html

We hope to see you there!

Heritage Quest Research Library News

October is
Family History Month

Now that we have your attention, did you know that October is Family History Month?  Heritage Quest Research Library is here to assist you in the search for your own personal family history.  Do you have a “Brick Wall”?  Are you frustrated that you can’t access the records you need from home?  We can help!
HQRL is Family Search affiliate library.  While many of the Family History Centers for the LDS church are closed, we can access most of the records when you are in our facility.  Our library collection includes many of the books you previously could find only in a FHL location.
If you are a member of HQRL you can access the Library edition of Ancestry and My Heritage from the security of your own home.  Go to www.hqrl.com, click on the members page and log in to your account.  You will find the link to both there.
We hope you will take this opportunity to spend some time with your ancestors. Learning from the past can help us as we head into the future.

Please do not respond to this blog.  If you have questions or comments you may reach us at; research@hqrl.com or by calling us at 253-863-1806

Heritage Quest Research Library Challenge Match

Your Donation will be Matched!

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic we have tried to stay STRONG, but that hasn’t been easy.  We closed the library on Friday, March 13, 2020 right in the middle of the NOURISH OUR ROOTS campaign to replenish our reserves.  We are eternally grateful that you stepped up and helped us in that endeavor.  While we were able to move forward because of your generosity, we find ourselves again behind the 8-ball due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How can you HELP? What does all this mean?

We have been given a challenge by one of our valued members!

From now until the end of the year, for every $1 pledged to HQRL they will match your donation.  If you give $5, they will give $5.  If you give $100, they will give $100.  Essentially doubling your gift.

We have added a DONATION button to the HQRL webpage at: www.hqrl.com  for your convenience.

We want to be here for you.  We want to share our knowledge and expertise with you.  We want HQRL to be a premier place to research, learn and share genealogy, but we cannot do it alone. We know that COVID-19 has affected each of us in a variety of ways.  We hope for a healthier future and the ability to gather and share our stories.

Heritage Quest Research Library

We have been hit hard due to the pandemic, like most everyone. However, if you would please help us get the word out that HQRL IS OPEN. Our new hours are: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. M, W, Th, and F.

In addition, we are an affiliate of the Family History Centers. What this means is that you can access most of the “locked” records. There are three ways to access them. You can come into the library, or you can access the database from the “members” portion of our web site (HQRL.com), or you can contact the library directly and for a fee we will pull the records for you. Along with that we are restating that we are available on a fee basis to do research for you.

Thank you in advance.

Heritage Quest Research Library is Still here

We’re happy to say
“We’re still here”!
I know it’s been awhile since we sent out an email, but we are happy to say “we’re still here” even if we haven’t been open.  Pierce County (the county where we are located) has moved to the Phase 2 of the COVID-19 recovery.  For us at the library, it means that we must make sure that we are able to accommodate our patrons in a safe environment. We must be able to protect our volunteers, members and patrons before we are allowed to re-open.  In the mean time we are working on ways to help you with your Genealogy.

1)  If you are a current member of Heritage Quest Research Library, when you access our webpage, click on the Members tab.  It will take you to the log in page.  Log in and you will see the name Ancestry remote login under members. Click on it and you’re IN!
2)  Can’t find the time to do research?  We have the volunteers who are able to do the research for you. Our assistance rate is $15.00 per hour.  Send inquiries to: research@hqrl.com
3)  Our Webmaster and our Technology gurus are working to adapt our Pay Pal account to accept your membership payments.  We’re not there yet, but hope to be soon. If you regularly pay by mail, that’s OK too.  Our office manager is picking up our mail on a regular basis.
4)  We are also working on ways to bring Genealogy to you!  Many of the Gen Societies and Heritage Groups are doing classes remotely.  We are working on that too!

We sincerely care about all our members and patrons.  We have your health in our hearts.  Be well, stay healthy and we will see you soon!
