Puget Sound Genealogical Society classes for June:

Jun 10 (Sat), 10:30am-12:30pm. Genealogical Proof Standard and Military Records with Janet O’Conor Camarata. This class will be Zoom only.

Jun 17 (Sat), 10:30am-12:30pm. Immigration & Naturalization and Tips, Tools & Tricks with Janet O’Conor Camarata. This will be a hybrid class with both in person and on Zoom.

Jun 28 (Wed), 1pm-2pm. Our June program will be Torry’s Treasures: Discovering the Hidden Gems Buried Inside New England Marriage Records Prior to 1700 with Michael Lee Stills.

Upcoming PSCWRT Meeting

The renown writer and historian, Walter Stahr returns to Seattle to tell the story of his latest book – Stanton: Lincoln’s War Secretary. Stahr captures the essence of the controversial Edwin M. Stanton who, while a staunch Democrat, revered the Republican Lincoln and supported the war effort with all his considerable talents.

Stanton was at the epicenter of the Andrew Johnson impeachment as he sought to advance the cause of freedmen during the dark days of the Lincoln assassination and reconstruction. This will likely be the most influential discussion of the season.

Mr. Stahr is also the author of Seward: Lincoln’s Indispensable Man and John Jay: Founding Father. Mr. Stahr practiced international law for 25 years, including seven in Hong Kong and five with the SEC.

Puget Sound Civil War Roundtable

September 13, 2018 Meeting

First meeting for this season will be at China Harbor (6:00 pm).
The speaker will be Kent Hickey, he will discuss the 1865-66 travels to Appomattox and throughout the South by young Northern journalist John Richard Dennett, whose essays first appeared in the Nation and were later collected in The South as It Is 1865-1866. During part of his talk Mr. Hickey will portray the journalist Dennett in character, especially in reporting on the Freedmen. Mr. Hickey will also tell what it is like to work in living history for the National Park Service, based on his volunteer service as a historical interpreter at Appomattox during summers. For the rest of the year he is the President of Seattle Prep.
