Heritage Quest Research Library Cindi’s List in Practice

Cyndi’s List in Practice Sometimes overwhelming to beginners and sometimes underused by veterans, Cyndi’s List is a research tool that is robust with resources helpful in everyone’s research.  Using specific examples for beginners, as well as more advanced researchers, we will explore the site and point out how to make the most of the categories and the links found within. Cyndi Ingle, a genealogist for more than 43 years, is a creator and innovator behind the award-winning and globally recognized CyndisList.com. Cyndi is an expert in using technology for genealogy, research in the US and bringing together traditional methodology with organization, computers, software and the Internet.  March 7, 2024

19th-Century Women Settlers Confront the Far West

Women settled the Far West along with their male family members although we don’t learn about them as much. This session will help you learn more and delve deeper into the lives of White, Asian and Black women ancestors who settled in the Far West pre-1900. We will look at women’s lives through their own lenses in letters, diaries and photos as well as what records were generated during their lifetimes.

Time to expand your research in FamilySearch.org?  You’ve processed all those handy Record Hints for your ancestor, so now what?  FamilySearch has a vast amount of records that are only available with a deeper dive.  Come learn some tips and tricks that will make your dive more effective and less frustrating.

Bio: Donna Snider is Director of the Camano-Stanwood FamilySearch Center on nearby Camano Island. Her life-long love of family history propelled her through many hours of recording memories for the elderly, through several college genealogy classes, and through a B.A. in gerontology at Brigham Young University. She has taught a variety of genealogical classes over the last several decades, and her specialty is teaching others how to easily steer through the extensive FamilySearch.org program.

There will be a short break with refreshments. The monthly meeting will follow.

Also join us at the SVGS library from 1-3pm on Thursday, February 15th for our DNA Special Interest Group (DIG). This group works together to develop a better understanding of DNA techniques and strategies for finding relatives, discuss and review new DNA developments and tools and help members with their research problems. This group meets at the same time on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

A genealogist for more than 40 years, she is an active member of several genealogical societies. Guest lecturer for genealogical society meetings and seminars. Tri-City Genealogical Society Preview of RootsTech

  Please join us for Tri-City Genealogical Society’s February General meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14.  The presentation will be at the Richland FamilySearch Center located at 1314A Goethals Dr.  Entrance is down the ramp from the parking lot that is to the north of Dairy Queen.  The presentation will also be on Zoom so you can join in from the comfort of your own home.  See below for the Zoom link.

  February’s presentation will be by  TCGS member Veronica Anguiano and will be a preview of RootsTech 2024.  RootsTech begins on February 29 and continues through March 2 and will be both in person and online.  Free registration gives online access to 200+ online sessions, keynote sessions, syllabi and handouts and the opportunity to chat online with other attendees.  Veronica will be presenting tips on what presentations will be available and how to access these presentations along with archived presentations from previous years.
